Point this tool at a local folder and it displays your images as thumbnails, letting you preview each one and narrow things down with “Candidate / Hold / Discard” labels. Labeling works via keyboard shortcuts, and it supports multi-select plus sorting by filename, modified date, or file size, along with filtering by label. Unwanted images can be deleted straight from the folder, and Candidate/Hold selections can be exported in bulk to subfolders. It handles up to 500 images per folder, and nothing ever leaves your browser. Requires Chrome or Edge — not available on smartphones. Freely offered by our studio.
Image Curator Manual (English)
A web tool that loads a local folder, displays the images as thumbnails, and lets you label them while previewing to narrow down your picks.
About using this tool
Images are never sent outside your browser. Everything runs locally on your computer
The tool accesses the local folder you select directly, and deletion acts on the real files. It doesn’t go through the OS trash/recycle bin — instead it moves the file into a _不要(discard) subfolder inside your chosen folder (see “How deletion works” below). Since it disappears from the original folder immediately, please double-check before deleting

Supported file types
JPEG / PNG / GIF / WebP / BMP / AVIF
Loads up to 500 images per folder. If a folder has more, only the first 500 in the current sort order are shown
File name sorting is natural order (img_2 before img_10)
How to use it
Click “Select a folder” and choose the folder, or drag & drop a folder onto the app (dropping individual image files isn’t supported — write permission needed for deletion can only be granted at the folder level)
Your browser will ask for permission to access the folder — allow it
A thumbnail grid appears. Use the dropdown to sort by “file name / date modified / file size” x “ascending / descending”. If you add images to the folder after loading it, click the 🔄 reload button next to it to pick up the new images while keeping your current filter, sort order, and labels
Double-click a thumbnail to open the large preview (lightbox). You can also select a thumbnail and press Space or Enter (press Space again to close it). A sidebar of thumbnails stays visible on the left, so you can jump straight to any other image
In the preview, use ←→ (or ↑↓), the mouse wheel, or the on-screen arrow buttons to move through images
Press 1 for Candidate, 2 for Hold, 3 for Discard (press the same key again to clear the label). 4 also clears the label. The same keys work on the selected image(s) in either the grid or the preview. The buttons at the bottom do the same thing
Toggle the ⓘ button to show/hide detail info (resolution, aspect ratio, file size, format, date modified) over the image. The button next to it switches how the image is displayed, between “zoomed to fill the screen” (default) and “actual size” (your choice is remembered for next time). The ⛶ button after that switches to true fullscreen, using the whole screen beyond the browser window (press Esc to exit — keyboard shortcuts like labeling still work while fullscreen)
Use the filters at the top of the grid (All / Candidate / Hold / Discard / Unlabeled) to review by label
Click a thumbnail to select just that one, Cmd/Ctrl+click to add or remove from the selection, Shift+click to select a range. Right-click while images are selected to label all of them at once. Click any empty space outside the thumbnails, or press Esc, to clear the selection
To delete a single image, click “Delete now” in the preview (a confirmation dialog appears)
To delete every image labeled “Discard” at once, click “Delete all discarded” above the grid (a confirmation dialog appears)
“Candidate” and “Hold” are labels inside the app only — they aren’t reflected in the real folder on their own. If you want them visible outside the app too, use “Export Candidates” / “Export Hold” above the grid to copy the labeled images into _候補(candidate) / _保留(hold) subfolders (the originals stay in place — see “About exporting (Candidate/Hold)” below)

About exporting (Candidate/Hold)
“Candidate” and “Hold” are just labels inside your browser — nothing changes in the real folder on their own. Use the export feature if you also want them visible from outside the app
Clicking “Export Candidates” / “Export Hold” copies the labeled images into auto-created _候補(candidate) / _保留(hold) subfolders inside your chosen folder
Unlike deletion, the original files are not removed. It’s a plain byte copy, so there’s no quality loss or lost Exif data (it doesn’t go through the re-encoding step used for thumbnails)
If a file with the same name already exists at the destination, a timestamp is appended so re-exporting the same label never overwrites a previous copy
How deletion works
Deleting moves the image into an auto-created _不要(discard) subfolder inside your chosen folder (files are not permanently erased — they’re set aside)
That said, the move out of the original folder happens immediately, and there is no in-app undo. Make sure before you confirm
You can review, restore, or permanently delete the contents of _不要(discard) normally from Finder/Explorer
About saved labels
Labels are stored in your browser’s local storage, keyed by folder name, and restored when you reopen a folder with the same name
Labels won’t carry over if you clear your browser’s site data, or open the folder from a different computer or browser
Because only the folder name is used as the key, two folders with the same name (e.g. output) in different locations will share labels. Give them distinct names if you work with several at once
Environment & Notes
Supported browsers: latest Chrome or Edge on a PC (uses the File System Access API for direct folder read/write, which Safari and Firefox don’t support — nor do iPad or smartphones, since their OS-level browser engine doesn’t implement this API, regardless of which browser app you install)
Loading a very large number of images at once may slow down the browser

Nothing happens when clicking “Select a folder”
Make sure you’re using the latest Chrome or Edge. Safari/Firefox are not supported
“No image files were found” after picking a folder
Check that the folder contains supported image files (JPEG/PNG/GIF/WebP/BMP/AVIF)
An error appears when deleting
Make sure the file isn’t open in another app (like Preview), then close it and try again
Labels disappeared
Clearing your browser’s site data also clears saved labels
